Time Warp Trio

How funny are these books?  I mean seriously.  My son read these vociferously in second grade and I thought that is so cute, books that can develop an interest in learning more about history.  Well now there is a TV show and my kindergartener is MAD about it.  The show is really funny and covers all kinds of historical periods.  From the Greek Olympics to Mary Shelley to Lewis and Clark.  Then I told them the show was based on a series of books and omg we had to go to the library immediately!  So he was in heaven but I thought, I bet these books are about as much fun to read as the Magic Tree House.  I am sure there are a lot of Jack and Annie fans out there, but I want to drive a screwdriver through my eyeball whenever I am requested to read one.  But I do it.  For the love of children and literature.

So last night we snuggle down to read Knights of the Kitchen Table  the first int he Time Warp series.  It was funny.  It was sooo funny.  It had the same dry witty humor of the Bunnicula series that I loved during my own childhood (can I get a holla for vampire bunnies?).  It was fun to read, well written (what a concept), and packed–packed– with historical information.  I am a bibliophile so it is not hard for me to fall in love with books, but I do have high standards.  Now, they are not taking the place of Harry Potter in my heart, but wow, color me impressed.  So what’s your favorite series…now or when you were a kiddo?

Oh, all my kids LOVE Time Warp Trio books. We are soooo happy when we find them at Half Price Books and at garage sales! I did not know there a TV show though. I wonder if the library would have those? Hmmm…
My favorite series right now is the Stephanie Plum series by janet Evanovich. I also love the Flowers in the Attic series by VC Andrews. (Oh and of course, Harry Potter!) When I was little I loved the Little House series. But my favorite book of all time (and this is gonna sound stupid) is This School is Driving Me Crazy by Nat Hentoff. (http://www.amazon.com/This-School-Driving-Me-Crazy/dp/0440987024/sr=8-1/qid=1170435223/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-9842619-8777537?ie=UTF8&s=books) I still read it every year and feel the pain of the main character. Man I hated public school!
The link in the entry above takes you to the TWT site and then there is a link to purchase a DVD of popular episodes. Hope that helps!

My kids loved the TWT books. My daughter told me she watched an episode of the show when she was at my parents’ a couple weeks ago. She really enjoyed it. The author is so funny even I enjoyed those books.

As a kid I loved The Baby-sitters Club. My older son and daughter like Secrets of Droon. Right now our whole family is greatly enjoying Deltora Quest. We have to only read those when my husband is around because he’s loving them just as much as the rest of us.

And of course we all love Harry Potter.

    Stephanie Says:

Yes! Count us in. I read these to my now 10 yo and it was such a relief (I found Magic Treehouse books to be like pulling teeth to read). My dh is reading them with our 6 yo and he loves them.

Funny you should mention Bunnicula as I am reading these with my 6 yo now and he just cracks up laughing. And so am I! It says something when I don’t mind reading the books a second time (read them with my oldest too).

Have you read the Howie books (Tales from the House of Bunnicula)? They are a spin off from Bunnicula and are hilarious…Howie (who comes into the family in the later Bunnicula books) decides that he wants to write his own books. He journals about the process and it is HILARIOUS. And a great insight into the writing process.
