Hi, my name is siouxjoe and I am a homeschooler. It felt a little like AA when I walked into my first homeschool support group meeting (see we even have “support groups”, there must be drinking involved). Anyway my husband and I own a gym and we have 2 wonderful boys ages 9 and 5. Our oldest began homeschooling last year and our youngest will attend kindergarten in the fall. Because he wants to, crazy kid. I am going to school full time to finish my bachelor’s degree in education, hello irony. My mother was a teacher for 30+ years, I know the deal and I know that I don’t have to have a degree to teach my kids. But there are a lot of other kids in this world that deserve a different kind of education. So I have decided to change the world, or the county. We’ll see how long that lasts. Our homeschool style is classical unschool. My son needs the structure and I want him to learn the classical model. That being said I will throw it all away for a moment to learn Japanese or catalog bugs. Structured flexability works best for us. We are the ultimate oxymoron family.
